It was built for one of Laurel's founding fathers, Silas Gardiner, an owner of Eastman-Gardiner Lumber Company, Laurel's largest and most successful sawmill.

Wisteria is located across the street from Mississippi's oldest museum, the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, and next door to the Rogers-Green House.
